About David Martin

David Martin David Brian Martin, II is a artist and photographer who lives in Canton, Ohio. He graduated from the McKinley Senior High School with an emphasis in music and Commercial Art in 2000 and he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Akron. His emphasis at the University of Akron was Fine Art Photography using the darkroom, Commercial Photography, where he used the 4x5 camera and studio lights, Portrait Photography, and painting. His main emphasis at Akron was street photography and realistic paintings. His inspirations were that of Norman Rockwell, Henri Cartier Breton, Heni Frank, Dorthea Lange, Lee Freidlander, Gary Winnogrand, Andrew Borroweic (his instructor), Bill Guy, A. Stieglitz, and many others. David is still working strong on paintings and his photography. He is hoping to publish some books on his travels and photography bodies of work in the near future. The darkroom may not be as popular as it was just a decade ago but David is still working strong with it, with paint brushes, and with digital tools. He has also been battling with mental illness since he graduated college in 2004. David received a medical discharge from the United States Navy due to being diagnosed with OCD, Anxiety General Disorder, and Bipolar because he wasn't able to get passed the constant head pains and memory problems that he has been struggling with since 2005. Thus, David turned to art and photography as a form of his therapy to help him cope with life. In the fall of 2018 he was also diagnosed with Hereditary Hemochromatosis, where his body cannot get rid of iron. So, he was struggling with major fatigue and more memory issues due to that for a while, as well. He currently treats the disease with continual phlebotomies so they can rid his body of the high iron in order to not cause any more damage to his organs than what has been done thus far, after removing part of his colon a year prior because of emergency diverticulitis surgery, where his colon ruptured. Life has been a journey and he uses art to give his life meaning.
